Ethics

It is of the highest importance that the people of the State of Texas have confidence in the integrity of their public servants. This need is especially critical in the area of state-supported higher education. The responsibility for educating and training the future leaders of the state and nation carries with it the duty to adhere to the highest ethical standards and principles. It is for this reason that this statement of ethical principles and its accompanying guidelines was formed. (System Policy 07.01, Ethics Policy)

Alcohol and Drug-Free Awareness and Prevention Program

Recognizing the cost of substance abuse to the workplace, Texas A&M AgriLife has developed procedures to promote a safe and healthy environment for all employees.

In accordance with System Regulation 34.02.01, Texas AgriLife Research and Texas AgriLife Extension Service maintain a Drug-Free Awareness Program to inform employees of drug abuse violation penalties, the dangers of drug abuse, and of the available drug counseling, rehabilitation and employee assistance programs. As part of that program, the Drug and Alcohol Awareness brochure is available at http://agservices.tamu.edu/forms/drugpamphlet.pdf . For additional information on subjects such as laws, prevention initiatives, publications, community resources and help for parents, you may access the Texas Department of State Health Services web site at http://www.dshs.state.tx.us/sa/.

HIV/AIDS

To acknowledge the serious nature of HIV and related health issues, System Regulation 34.04.03, provides guidelines ensuring that the rights and privileges of all employees are protected. Consistent with that regulation, the educational pamphlet, HIV/AIDS in the Workplace, is maintained online at http://agservices.tamu.edu/forms/hivworkplace.pdf. This pamphlet is issued by The Texas Department of Health and provides information on methods of transmission and prevention of HIV infection and the relevant state laws. Additional information on HIV and the AIDS epidemic may also be found on the Center for Disease Control’s web site, www.cdc.gov/hiv.
