1.00 GENERAL
The faculty development leave program is described in System Regulation 31.03.03, Leave of Absence With Pay. Specific AgriLife Extension Service (Extension) application and approval procedures are outlined herein.
2.00 PROCEDURES
A. To apply for faculty development leave, complete a Texas A&M AgriLife (AgriLife) Form AG-426, Application for Faculty Development Leave Program, and submit five (5) copies through normal administrative channels to the Director. These applications will then be forwarded to the Extension Faculty Development Leave Committee for evaluation and recommendation.
Applications should be submitted during January preceding the fiscal year for which the leave is being requested; however, if an unexpected opportunity arises, leave requests may be submitted at other times.
The Application for Faculty Development Leave Instruction Sheet/checklist (attachment A) may be used by faculty members as a checklist to aid in assembling the complete application for Faculty Development Leave.
B. Upon receipt, the administrative head shall complete an Administrative Head Information Sheet (attachment B). The administrative head may also request a review and evaluation of the application from appropriate faculty and solicit a written recommendation from one or more of such review faculty which may be attached to the Administrative Head Information Sheet.
C. The administrative head will forward the application along with written recommendations from any faculty review to the Director. For employees who are joint with the College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM), the application, attachments and any recommendations will be forwarded through the CVM dean to the Director.
D. The Faculty Development Leave Committee will review and evaluate the application for faculty development leave and forward the application with attachments plus the committee’s recommendation(s) to the Director.
E. If the Faculty Development Leave Committee has recommended approval of the request and the Director concurs, the request will be forwarded through administrative channels to the Board of Regents. If the Faculty Development Leave Committee has recommended disapproval of the request and the Director concurs, the request along with a letter outlining the rationale for disapproval will be returned to the faculty member making the request.
3.00 FACULTY DEVELOPMENT LEAVE COMMITTEE
A. A Faculty Development Leave Committee is appointed to evaluate requests from Extension faculty members for faculty development leave and to recommend, to the Director, approval or disapproval.
B. The committee is composed of five members with the rank of assistant professor and above, who are appointed on an ad-hoc basis by the Director.
